How would you compare/contrast NCAA Division 1 (Mens) and NCAA Division 3 (Men's)?

Both NCAA D1 and NCAA D3 Men's Hockey are quality levels of hockey to play in. NCAA D1 is known for its high level of competition and attracting elite players who often pursue professional careers afterward. Hundreds of NHL players/alumni are former D1 players. NCAA D3 hockey can be extremely competitive as well (depending on the conference), but the overall skill level from the top to bottom of rosters is slightly lower than D1. More D3 players are going on to play in the minor leagues as well. Head to head, NCAA D1 hockey takes the edge in terms of exposure, competitiveness, and pathway to the top professional ranks beyond college hockey.

The level of play is quite high and it's quite competitive (especially in the top conferences- ex: SUNYAC). Look at most any NCAA D3 men's hockey roster and you'll find a lineup of players who all have either junior, prep school, or top level youth playing experience prior to them playing at the NCAA level.
