About The Team

The Admirals franchise was founded back in 1995 (in Bakersfield). In 2015, the club moved to Norfolk where the team has been based since.

What players say...

"As a rookie just trying to prove myself as a pro, I came to Norfolk a little nervous. Our veteran core made me feel comfortable and within a few short weeks, I felt at home on the ice and in the dressing room. Virginia is a good spot in that you still get 4 seasons, but it doesn't get too cold. A few times each week, I would walk around the Freemason Harbor area near the pier. It's a short distance from Norfolk Scope and was a relaxing way to clear my head throughout the daily grind of the hockey season."

Norfolk Scope

The home arena for the Admirals is the Norfolk Scope (the Scope). With a spectator capacity for ice hockey games at 8,701, this place can fit a lot of fans when needed. Everything from concerts to wrestling and college basketball has been played in the arena in Norfolk. The dome is super unique in that its the world's largest reinforced thin-shell concrete dome (that's a lot of word's). Definitely worth looking it up more if that interests you (or better yet, check out an Admirals home game).

How many championships do the Norfolk Admirals have?

0. The Norfolk Admirals are still yet to with the Kelly Cup which is awarded to the ECHL playoff champions each season.

Interesting Facts

Did a resident of Norfolk invent the ice cream cone? Potentially. Norfolk is home to Doumar's Cones and Barbecue which is a historic eatery in town. It claims to be the birthplace of the ice cream cone. Way back in 1904, Abe Doumar, a Lebanese immigrant in Norfolk, invented the cone-making machine and began serving ice cream there at the World's Fair. Today over 100 years later, Doumar's continues to please visitors with its renowned ice cream and BBQ classics.
