About The Team

The Grizzlies current franchise began back in 1981 and has played under a number of names throughout the years. Since the 2005-2006 season, the club has been called the Utah Grizzlies and have played in the ECHL.

"I liked playing for the Grizzlies. Our club was affiliated with Colorado so when I got called up, it was a short flight over to Denver. As an outdoorsy kind of guy, living near the Rocky Mountains was a big bonus. Focus in season is all about hockey, but was still able to explore a lot of Utah!"

Maverik Center

The Grizzlies call the Maverik Center their home in the ECHL. The arena can hold up to 10,100 spectators for games and has been open since 1997. Besides being the main venue for the city's hockey team, the Maverik Center is home to the Salt Lake City Stars (NBA G-League) and has hosted numerous big name concerts. When the 2002 Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City, the arena played host for numerous ice hockey games.

0. The Utah Grizzlies are yet to win the Kelly Cup (ECHL championship trophy). The club won a division title in 2021-2022.

Off The Ice in West Valley City, Utah

With a population of a little over 136k people, West Valley City is the 2nd largest city in the state of Utah. There's a ton to do in West Valley from outdoor recreational activities (hiking, biking, trails) to exploring shops and the restaurants around town. Roughly 45 min to 1 hour hour East of town depending on the destination, you'll find some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the region at well known resorts such as Snowbird, Alta, Park City, Deer Valley, and more.

Interesting Facts

West Valley City has its own mini replica of Stonehenge, the ancient relic in England. If you stop by the city's Gilgal Sculpure Garden, you'll find the replica which has large pillars placed in the same circular formation as the original. It's not as big as the real thing, but it's quite interesting to check out when you visit nonetheless.
