The Worcester Railers are a professional ice hockey team in the ECHL. The club is based in Worcester, Massachusetts.

About The Team

The Worcester Railers began play in the ECHL in 2017 as a new expansion team. The team has primarily been a middle of the pack club in terms of ECHL standings, but a number of quality players have played here since the team was founded.

DCU Center

Worcester Railers home ice arena is the DCU Center in Worcester. The arena can hold 12,135 spectators in total for hockey matches. Besides hockey, the arena has played host for all sorts of events from Boston Celtics preseason and NCAA tournament games years back to indoor football and pro wrestling. Many concerts are held at the DCU Center as well as popular artists tour New England. Compared to other ECHL arenas, the Railers don't draw the highest attendance numbers for most games, but the fan base who supports the team is both passionate and brings the energy to home games in Worcester for the club each game night.

Is Worcester the birthplace of the Smiley Face?

The city of Worcester holds an interesting claim to fame as the birthplace of the iconic "smiley face" symbol. Back in 1963, Worcester native Harvey Ball created the original smiley face design as a way to increase morale among employees at a local insurance company. Little did Harvey know that his simple creation would later go on to become one of the most universally recognized symbols of happiness and positivity in the entire world. Not surprisingly, that story just made us smile.
