About The Team

The Bobcats franchise was founded in 2023. The team is based in Wytheville, VA which sits in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains (hence the teams name). The new FPHL club is still newer to the league, but they have some quality players, a quality coaching staff, and we see them continuing to progress even further in the coming years.

The Apex Center plays home for the Blue Ridge Bobcats during the ice hockey season. It’s called the Appalachian Regional Exposition Center, but APEX for short. It’s definitely one of the more unique venues in the league as the arena both serves as a hockey rink and as a popular expo for everything from local rodeos and livestock shows to regional fairs and concerts.

How many championships do the Blue Ridge Bobcats have?

0. The Blue Ridge Bobcats are yet to win the Commissioner's Cup in the league.

Off The Ice in Wytheville, Virginia

Wytheville, Virgina is one of the smaller cities to have a minor professional hockey team, but don’t let that fool you. Set in the heart of the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains, Wytheville blends history, lots of outdoor activities, and has a small town “friends with your neighbors” type of feel to it. With a population of roughly 8,000 people, there’s enough going on day to day but it’s not so big where you’re ever really hitting traffic jams. When we visited to see the team on the ice, the downtown areas, shops, and local restaurants were all quite enjoyable during our stays.

Interesting Facts

Downtown Wytheville is home to a couple fun roadside attractions. Two of those are a giant few story tall pencil (The Big Pencil) outside the Wytheville Office Supply and a giant paint bucket across the street from it that looks like it’s pouring over at The Paint Store.

Both symbols make for great photo stops for visitors and they surely add a unique charm to the city itself.
