Tell us a little bit about the club?

We are Lapland's oldest ice hockey club which is celebrates their 50-year anniversary during the 2021-2022 season.

What's the city and culture like away from the rink?

Ylitornio is a small town in Finland near the northern Artic Circle with 3000 inhabitants. Located in the border of Sweden and same sized twin-town Övertorneå. Amazing arctic nature with possibility to see Aurora borealis and experience polar night and polar twilight. Style of living is laidback and quite slow, people in Ylitornio are really helpful and nice.

What's the style of hockey like in your league in Finland?

Style of playing in our league is quite offensive and skill level is quite high. Many teams have one or more ex-pro players.Could you tell us about your arena?

Could you tell us about your arena?

Arena is built in year 2000 and it has capasity of 500 spectators. Team has own renovated locker room. Team also has very loyal fans and we sell usually 300 season tickets/season (which is 10% of inhabitants in Ylitornio).

How has the experience been having other imports players playing for the club?

They have loved to play in our team and had experience of a lifetime while staying in Ylitornio. We have had import players earlier from USA, Canada, Russia, Slovakia, New Zealand, Sweden so we know how to take good care of import players.

What are you most excited about regarding the continued growth of the game of hockey in the country?

It's great that level of hockey in Finland has got better and better during last decade in every league. And due to that we can offer audience a better experiences also in our league.

What's a favorite place to visit in the city?

Aavasaksa (hill) which has beatiful sights over the Tornio-river to Sweden and Finland (pictured above). Aavasaksa is also a World heritage site named by UNESCO and popular tourist attraction site where you can see midnight sun during the summer and aurora borealis during the winter.
