Macon, Georgia is located in the central part of the state on the banks of the Ocmulgee River. Rich in its history, Macon boasts a delightful Southern atmosphere with historic architecture and oak-lined streets throughout town. The city is well-known for its historic sites (most notably The Tubman Museum) as well as its musical heritage.
#1- Macon is home to over 350,000 Yoshino Cherry Trees and is quite often referred to as the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World." Because of this, the city celebrates an annual International Cherry Blossom Festival each March. The festival attracts tourists from around the world.
#2- Did you know that Macon played a large role in the development of Southern rock music? Yep. The Allman Brothers Band (ask your parents if you're young) who were pioneers of the genre spent a big chunk of their early career in Macon. The band's former residence, called The Big House, is now a museum that is completely dedicated to their legacy.
